Welcome to the website of the Yorkshire Helicopter Preservation Group (YHPG) . The Group is a Volunteer run organisation and exists to preserve and maintain helicopter airframes and artifacts relating to rotary wing operations in the Yorkshire Area.

Current News up to October 2001.
 The most ambitious part of XP345's restoration is now underway with the removal of its main rotor gearbox assembly. As previously mentioned this will allow the mounting plate to be exchanged with a fully refurbished example and also allows us to clean and service the gearbox at bench level rather than an uncomfortable twelve feet off the ground (sorry aprox' three metres for those who don't use £-s-d any more).Whilst this work is going on some areas of fuselage skin will be replaced around the area of the gearbox prior to its replacement.. .More News...............

AIMS OF THE GROUP

  • To preserve and maintain WH991(Dragonfly) to it's current exhibition standard.

  • To maintain XJ398 in it's current `live' status and operate the engines and systems from time to time.

  • To restore XP345 to exhibition standard in 1970's UN Cyprus (84 sqdn) paint scheme.

  • To continue to expand the groups current archive, adding items relating to all Dragonfly and Whirlwind operations in the Yorkshire area by all three services and civilian users.

  • To add helicopters both military and civilian to the collection as availability and funds permit

  • Bristol Siddeley (Rolls Royce) Gnome 101 shaft turbine engine

  • Westland Wessex rotor head assembly

  • Whirlwind hydraulic system training aid (ex Bristows training school) constructed from Whirlwind gearbox, rotor head and tail rotor components by Bristows trainees.

The group hold an extensive archive of pictures and information relating to its charges, also a complete set of maintenance manuals for the Whirlwind Mk10/12 and miscellaneous manuals for the Dragonfly.

 

The Group exists through the voluntary efforts of its members and the donations of it's supporters without whom we wouldn't exist.
